Mini Commander EX Connections and Outputs

Mini Commander EX connections
This Mini Commander EX will support a variety of connection options.  Ditch lighting (LED's), directional lighting, smoke, strobe, cab & marker lights, and coil couplers are easily connected.  When configuring, the LC-1 and LC-2 output take on a variety of capabilities.  The output behavior is established in the configuration phase.   Summarily, when LC-2 is used for an alternate function (ie: strobe light), LC-1 can support directional lighting for both front and rear lamps.  See the configuration guide for details on how to set this up.

Mini Commander EX Ditch with Lighting connections
Use only White LED's for this connection.  The white LED's drop about 3v, and the series resistor on the Mini Commander EX will not support the extra load imposed by 1.4v LED's (red or green).  For the same reason, do not connect filament  lamps to the Ditch Lamp connector.  The maximum current that can be handled by each Ditch Lamp output is 15ma.

Mini Commander EX with Directional Lighting on LC-1 and LC-2

In this configuration the LC-1 output is always the Front Lamp.  The LC-2 output will be configured to function as either a Rear Lamp, Smoke unit, Strobe, or Cab light.  This behavior is selected by configuring Engine Codes: 0, 1, 2, and 3.  In conventional mode, the LED's will receive track voltage.  The series resistor should be set to 620 ohms 1/2 watt for an LED current of 25ma.

Mini Commander EX with Directional Lighting on LC-1 only
This configuration allows for 3 outputs from 2 physical connections.  LC-1 is used for the directional lighting.  This feature operates in both command and conventional modes.  LC-2 is free to operate a Smoke unit, strobe, or cab light.  This behavior is selected by configuring Engine Codes 4, 5, and 6.  In all modes, the LED's voltage will be 1/2 of track voltage.  The series resistor should be set to 240 ohms 1/4 watt for an LED current of 25ma..
